Ultrasound Examinations Areas


  • Examination of abdominal organs: liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, retroperitoneum, including the lymph nodes, kidneys and surroundings, urinary tract, examination of the function of the bladder – capacity

  • Pelvic examination: uterus and uterine appendages, including Douglas space (women) and prostate (men)  

  • Examination of vascular abdominal structures: v. portae, abd. aorta and other major blood vessels including renal arteries

  • Examination of the throat: thyroid, parathyroid, nodes, parotid, submandibularis, supraclavicular lymph nodes

  • Soft tissue examination: skin, subcutaneous tissue, the extent and character of haematomas, the development of abscesses, tumors

  • Breast examination, axilla

  • Scrotum examination: testicles, epididymis, fluid in scrotum

  • Joint examination: especially knee joint (width of the aperture, liquid content including Baker’s pseudocysts, or malformed meniscus)

  • Examination of extracranial and peripheral vessels

  • Examination of the presence of free or encapsulated fluid intrathoracic and intraabdominal
