Motor evoked potentials (MEPs)
It is a non-invasive, painless examination used to test the function of the motor pathway. Stimulation is performed by placing a magnetic coil over the surface of the skull or over the cervical or lumbar spine. This stimulation causes a brief muscle twitch in the upper or lower limb, from which the response is recorded using surface adhesive electrodes. The examination provides information about the dysfunction of the motor pathway, particularly in its central segment, that is, in the brain and spinal cord.
